Selecting the Right High Speed Connectivity

Selecting the Right High Speed connectivity

If you have decided that your company needs a high speed Internet connection for growth, you now need to focus on the right kind of connectivity for your organization.

To begin with, you need to identify the purpose for which you want to have the Internet connectivity in place.

If you are looking to establish online communication with the different arms of your business high speed Internet connectivity is not a bad idea, but it will not exploit the full potential of the connectivity.  It will be meaningful, only if you have offices scattered across geographical locations and cannot currently afford to establish a local area network or wide area network across buildings or geographical locations and do not have the wherewithal to establish a telephone network between the arms of your business. It may even be meaningful if you are not currently in a position to invest in getting yourself a local area network within your building and do not want to outlay money towards establishing an intercom system.

If you are looking to provide your employees with data access across geographical locations, it would be best if you can visualize a local or wide area network that operates via high speed Internet connectivity. However, you need to make sure the applications authenticate and authorize employee access to the data and that you have made the data available on a server that has a public IP and all security protocols in place. This data could be product information or customer information that needs to be accessed anytime, anywhere by your employees.

If you plan to use the Internet for providing data access to your employees or you expect to have a large volume of data upload and download on a daily basis, you need to ensure that you get the right kind of connectivity that will serve your purpose. Simple DSL lines may not be what you are looking for.

Once you have identified the purpose of getting the high speed Internet connectivity, you need to identify the kind of connectivity you need. High speed Internet services are available in a variety of technical specifications to cater to the different needs of different business entities.

Entities that have businesses within urban conglomerates can connect with each other via the Internet using DSL lines that can affect symmetrical or asymmetrical data transfers across locations. IDSL lines can be provided to units within an organization that transfer mission critical information. The DSL lines work via the telephone cables and are physically secure and provide completely dedicated bandwidth to the user.

If your business is bandwidth hungry and you send and receive large volumes of data daily, the best option would be to set up T1 line or DS3 line that will service your needs.  This type of connectivity has uniform speeds for upload and download and a steady bandwidth allocation.
